Machir Bay is the flagship expression from Kilchoman, Islay’s renowned farm distillery. Named after the picturesque, windswept beach located just a short distance from the distillery gates, this Single Malt captures the rugged beauty of the island. It is crafted from a precise marriage of whiskies matured predominantly (90%) in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and finished with 10% maturation in Oloroso Sherry butts.
Bottled at 46% and non-chill filtered, Machir Bay is celebrated for its remarkable balance, offering a sophisticated interplay between intense Islay peat and the sweet, tropical influence of high-quality bourbon wood.
TASTING NOTES
Character: Smoky, elegant, and perfectly balanced.
Nose: Soft and harmonious. It opens with the aroma of cooked yellow fruits and a distinct, earthy peat smoke.
Palate: Ample and well-structured. Layers of fresh citrus and tropical fruit emerge alongside creamy vanilla and butterscotch, all enveloped in a rich, coastal smoke.
Finish: Long and persistent. It leaves a classic Islay signature on the palate, blending maritime saltiness with lingering peat and a touch of cracked black pepper.
