Creme de bergamote or bergamot liqueur is an artisanal citrus liqueur. Halfway between bitter orange and lime.
What is Bergamot?
Fruit of the bergamot tree, a tree of the Rutaceae family, the bergamot is a citrus fruit with a smooth and thick skin. Bergamot is mainly cultivated in southern Italy, in Calabria. Its flesh is too acidic and too bitter to be consumed raw. In reality, what makes the richness of this citrus fruit is its unique fragrance. This is why almost all of the harvested fruits, from November to February, are used for the production of essential oil.
How do we use bergamot?
Very present in perfumery and cosmetics, bergamot is also found in cooking. It is particularly prized by pastry chefs. Frequently used in Asian cuisine, it also beautifully accompanies fish or seafood. It is also used in the composition of Earl Grey tea. Finally, bergamot has naturally conquered the world of spirits, once again thanks to its uniqueness.
How do you consume bergamot liqueur?
Connoisseurs can consume it on its own, very cold, to release all its aromas. Meanwhile, those with a sweet tooth make it a choice ally for preparing their cakes. While adventurous spirits will not hesitate to revisit their favorite cocktail recipes.
